Ok, so I went through $500 worth of half dollars today and unfortunately didn't find any silver. However, I did find a 1971-D in AU condition with railroad rim (partial collar error) and on top of that, a ton of UNC/BU coins. BU: 1971-D (AU/UNC) x4 1972 1974 (AU/UNC) 1992-P 1993-D 1981-P (perhaps AU) 1996-D 1997-D 1998-P x4 1999-D x2 2000-D x2 2002-D x 2 2002-P 2003-D 2004-P x2 2006-P x5 2006-D x2 2007-D 2009-P x 16 2009-D x4 2011-P x7 2011-D x3 20011-D prooflike (MS66+) Haven't collected Kennedy's before. Do these have any value over face? All of those are 100% BU+. Quite a few MS65+ coins. Thanks!
The 2k+4 on up do because they were not released for general circulation and were only sold by the mint in bags to collectors. Good luck getting much more than 75c or a $1 each though.
1987 are worth about $2 each, 2002-2004 and 2006-2012 are worth $0.75 each, and 1971-2001, 2005 or 2013 are only worth face. i dont know how much 2014 is worth, but if the mintage is similar to last years it will most likely only be worth face.
Good to know. I did come across quite a few uncirculated 1971-D and 1972-D halves. The only date I didn't see was the 1987. BTW, are the 1976 commemorative ones worth anything over face value (in XF-AU condition)?
the 1976 are only worth face value. they have the highest mintage of any year, i think the 1971-D and 72-D are common, even uncirculated. also look for 1972, 1982, and 1990 halves without "FG" underneath the eagles left leg on the back.
yeah, you can sell them on Ebay for $16/roll, but they aren't actually worth anything to collectors. in middle school i sold them for $1 each and made over $200
I am not BS'ing you... A few days ago on slow work days when I was not working I volunteered to do the book fair at my daughter's school. I seeded the cash box with halves, Ikes and $2 bills. Pretty soon I had kids coming in just to buy those out of the cash box. A few hours later I got wind that one of the girls, a 5th grader, was selling the $2s to her classmates for $5 each!
I've done that a few times too.... then kids started noticing they said "series 2003" on them and stopped buying now no one really cares about the odd denominations, but in october/november i was able to sell some of the new $100s for $125 each
You found a 20011 half? It probably came from here. http://www.dc-coin.com/fantasyover-struckusacoins.aspx
There was a Scottish groat struck in 1556 during the reign of Queen Mary, it was dated 15556 - there are only a couple of known examples of the coin - it was last sold in the Bowers Ruddy auction back in 1976.
2011 . Also, found 2 rolls worth of 1971-D BU coins. Not holding my breath on getting a lot of money for any of these coins. Just gonna hold on to them.
I would not unless MS65 or better, check for errors and any odd ones and dump them. I send a roll or two back every week.
I wasn't aware of this. Just re-searched the halves that I picked up yesterday and about 1/2 way through found a 1983 P without initials. Thank you!
I just checked Ebay. Someone's been trying to sell one for $2 without success. Are the '83 ones just grease errors? Here's mine. I'm unable to see either letter with a loop.
