Should I send off a coin to be graded that has the stress ring on the obverse side from the back strike ?
There is compression on the obverse of the reverse strike that creates a type of ring around the head.
It almost sounds like he trying to describe a die clash. I personally don't see one on this coin...but I think that's what he means.
I don't see it, and I've never heard those terms used. What source provided those terms? If, as Cam suggested, you meant a die clash, I don't see that either. Chris
Does that seem like a logical response to what he is suggesting? I was trying to figure out what he meant...and since he said "you can see the body of the eagle on the obverse" the only thing I could think of was a die clash. But, like we have both said...I still don't see one.
I agree, but I really can't see it from those photos. They're just too small with too much light in the wrong places. If it had been a clash, the only part of the eagle that you would see is part of the wings and the rays. These would appear upside down on the obverse with the rays showing at the base of the neck. Chris
I took it to mean 'clash' too. I tried adding some contrast within the editing program and still didn't see anything so I un-did it and just made a larger pic of OP's.
