How the Hell would it "slam" into a magnet, like a Canadian coin ?

guys saying 40 % silver as a plausible explanation are insane...unless the US mint struck some foreign coin, that was 40% silver that was dime sized.

I know they sub-contracted foreign stuff, but I don't know what they actually struck for whomever.

That one has the "S" mintmark. The one Jello has is a Philly mint.

I sent them a question asking them why they think it is silver.

Did you happen to send it to Dr Wiles ? Although I know he is probably busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger, I think he is the most knowledegable expert in the error field ? In my opinion anyway. I sure hope you got a good one there. Good Luck !! gary

Silver proof dimes ended in 1964. Starting in 1968 the proofs were the same copper nickel clad composition as the business strikes. In 1992 the mint started selling silver proof sets in addition to the regular clad sets and those do have silver dimes in them, but none of the proof dimes from 1968 through 1991 are silver.

Got a reply from the ebay seller, they admitted the part about it being silver was a mistake on their part.
