    odd colored penny

after finding that one odd 1987 penny. i searched my other pennies, really excited. i found another penny that was odd. it is colored differently than anyother penny i have ever seen. it's more of a gold rather than copper. not totally gold but goldish. what does this mean?

    thanks

Color means nothing. Given the right chemical environment, a cent can turn almost any color imaginable. It could also be plated.

There are known specimens of what some call a Brass Cent. These come about due to an incorrect mix of the composition of the planchet in copper cents and incorrect mix of the composition of the plating for the Zinc cents. These sometimes fetch a premium over normal Cents of the same year when in high grade!

True, it could be a "brass plated" cent. These are thought to arise from zinc contaminating the copper plating solution. Copper + zinc = brass. It is said that the effect can be duplicated by heating normal zinc coins in an oven.
