I was going through newly listed items and came across this one. At first I wasn't going to buy it but decided I would. I contacted the seller and asked how many coins were in the folders, I was expecting them to be nearly empty. This is what he wrote back

"31 out of 55 Indian head cents. 3 out of 4 flying eagles!

70 out of 89 in the 1909-1940 book/ folder

And 34 out of 36 (with printed titles) and 40 out of 53 (without printed titles) in the post-1941 book/ folder.

So 178 out of 237 coins in the blue books."

From the looks of that web site, that seller knows what he is doing. I highly doubt you'll get anything of value. However, stranger things have happened. Let us know.

You just may have gotten a deal there. It will be interesting to see the details when the shipment arrives, but there is some nice stuff there.

Is it just me, or does the 1943 steel penny look brilliant?

Yeah that is why I always pay with paypal. Judging by his other auctions maybe he stopped collecting and decided to sell everything off.

So I've been chatting with the seller he says he sells coins for people.
I guess the people ask him to sell coins at some type of set price or if they
prefer a regular auction style listing. All the other items he's asking close
to book/melt value, maybe this auction slipped through and went for a low-ball price.

and that's exactly what can happen with some eBay items.

A buyer with an eagle eye (and patience, and a bit of luck) can sometimes find some real bargains.

There was an auction that someone brought to our attention about a week ago (can't remember the name of the thread, or the URL) -- but it was a complete Lincoln Cent collection (except for the 09 s vdb -- but did include a weak 14-d and 22-plain) where the guy put it up for bid with $20 shipping and a starting price of 0.99 -- and it closed with nobody bidding on it. The only explanation I have is that it was a combination of poor quality pictures, lousy description, and that it musta fallen through the cracks.

I was bummed that I didn't see it previously -- and so I wrote to him, and he said he'd sell it to me for $600. I declined. He asked what I'd offer for it. I don't have that kind of money to spend on this, I was only looking for a "steal" so to speak.

He put it up again for sale at $695 or best offer, and within two days he sold it for $625. It may have still been a bargain -- I'm not sure.

Perhaps you got a real bargain, too! Let us know when you get them and tell us what you think. It certainly was worth the gamble, imho.

Looks like a good deal to me.

True for the $14 it sure sounds great. I'm just a bit cautious when something is a bit to good. I'll wait to see what arrives.
