    South African Gold Coins

    Hi,

I recently came into possession of a few South African coins (8g each) as well as a Munich '72 Olympic coin (16g). A while back I visited a reseller who offered me $200 each for the 1/2 ounce coins and $700 for the Olympic coin. I would highly appreciate your take on the worth of these coins, which are posted on my album. If there is any further helpful I can provide please let me know. Many thanks!

    -V

first welcome to ct. as to your coins five of them is sovereigns coins
with your weights of 8 grams they are full sovereigns which should weigh
7.988 grams of 22 ct gold.
now as a troy oz is 31 grams they have a bullion value as of tonight
of $260 now that can go up as well as down .
as for the others you need to weigh them but remember a half oz is 15.5 grams
    in 24 ct gold
    hopes this helps

Thanks Dave. Your response is much appreciated, and thanks for welcoming me.

So am I correct in concluding, from your reply, that there is little or no collector value in any of my coins, even for the Olympic coin? Thanks for noting the troy ounce issue as I was ignorant to that fact.

And is anyone aware of the gold percentage in the Munich '72 Olympic coin?

    Thank you in advance.

    Dave,

Here are some larger pics. Apologies for the poor quality as I can't take new pictures this moment. Anyhow, I hope this helps a bit.

Again, many thanks for your time and assistance.
