I don't actually have them in hand yet, They have been shipped according to the web-site.
For all those people that are having issues with the turn around at NGC, I sent my coins off on saturday last week ( july 30 ) via registered mail, and they shipped them today ( aug. 8 )

So thats pretty fast

Here are the results:

1996 W dime: MS67 Full Torch
1940 Proof dime: PF 64
1942 Proof 50c: PF 63 :|
1934 Peace $1: AU 58
1883 CC Morgan: Body bagged ( altered surface )

I was really hoping for an MS designation on the peace dollar, and a higher grade on the proof walking liberty.. but oh well.
I purchased the proof dime and walking liberty for under what they graded out, so i am prety happy with those.

I can't wait to take a look at the morgan, as i am not sure what they mean by "altered surface"

From what i found on ebay the 1996W dime is probably worth $50 ( I purchased it in a mint set for 20 bucks, so i made out pretty good )

Sounds like you got some nice ones...the CC might be a added mintmark...but I don't know...I would still say the 34 Peace can back good....they are pretty $$$

Send the Morgan to somebody else if you really want it slabbed. I don't trust NGC with their body bags since I got a 1953 Franklin back from them that they said was cleaned. I know for a fact that it came straight from the bank in 1953. I was with my father when he got the roll. The fact that they are contracted with one of the tv shopping shows makes me lean toward thinking there is a conflict of interest. After all, if they grade too many high-ticket coins, how will their buddies on the tv show make any money?

Ahhh...it is like a waiting room at a hospital as your coins are "delivered". You wonder if your coin(s) will make it to MS65 instead of a MS64 designation. After all, it could be worth hundreds, if not thousnds of dollars for certain dates.

I have a MS68 1996-W Dime (PCGS) and ever since Coin World did an article on this dime (made the cover), I have seen postive activity on this coin. Spending $20 for the set with another $30 to certify it at least assures you and future buyers on what you have. Good move.

i actually purchased 4 1996 mint sets as well as one loose 96-W for my type set.
For my US type set ( dansco ) I am trying to fill it with high quality and/or "interesting" coins to set it apart, what better clad franklin dime to use then the 96-W /

I will post pics of the morgan when i get it back, i may gamble and send it to another grading service. By alteres surface i think they mean cleaned, it apeared to be proof like, but that may have been the alteration.

I am going ot hop onto NGC's web-site and see if i can find the body bag explinations...

Acoin that has been treated in some way that changes
its general appearance is said to have ALTERED
SURFACES. A coin’s surfaces can be altered in
many ways, but some of the more common methods
include whizzing and polishing, and adding “fill in”
substances to hide defects.
A WHIZZED coin is one whose surfaces have been
treated with a rapidly rotating wire wheel in order to make
the coin appear to be brilliant uncirculated. A POLISHED
coin could be buffed by hand or machine, while a
BURNISHED one is buffed by hand, in either case it is
often performed in an attempt to remove surface
imperfections that could lower the coin’s grade.
LACQUER is a clear chemical that is sometimes
applied to the surface of the coin to protect it. Over time,
however, this coating can crack, flake and discolor, giving
the coin an undesirable appearance. In the past, countries
lacquered coins at the mint before shipping. Therefore this
process can occur at the mint or afterwards.

Thank you for mentioning the possible contract NGC has with one of the TV shopping networks. I do not believe all the SAE MS 69 and PF 69 coins the shows sell are gotten by let's just say, honest means. When they have them for sale for over a year, and they even runs tapes of their shows offering the same coins for sale, let's just say I am a little skeptical of the show, and scared of NGC's practices. Some graded SAE's have lasted in their inventory for over a year, with what they say are limited supplies. How many times have we heard "the coins are flying out of here, and there is a wait on the phone lines." I don't believe they could get this many 69's to keep selling over and over again. It just appears funny to me.

Another thing about the tv shopping shows that strikes me as odd. They are now really hawking the scarcity of the new Bison Nickels. Does anyone know where Bison Nickels are scarce or valuable? Maybe in Japan. I have takled to folks all over the US. and the Bison's are not scare. Even one person here on Coin Talk was giving them away to his co-workers to maybe peak their interest in coin collecting. Scare, I think not. The mint still has the Bison's for sale.

And let us not forget the Binion Dollars that one TV shopping network sold for almost year. Remember the inventory was constantly limited. After that network ceased to sell them another shopping network starts selling what I call 'culled' Binion Dollars. Much lower graded Binion Dollars than the first network had for sale.

I simply watch the shows now for any interesting info I could research and use. I keep my Red Book handy. I never purchase from tv shows. By they way there is a new coin show on Direct TV Channel 236 (or there abouts) on Wednesday nights. The announcer does more talking than selling. There is also another coin show on TV SuperStore Network Channel 341. I haven't watch enough of Direct TV Store Channel 345 to comment.
