Very nice silvereagle82, all of them!
ps-am I guessing right you are probably of Dutch descent?

VERY nice ducats, I especially like the 1779 which I believe is closer to AU58 than AU55. I have one that NGC slabbed as MS61 and yours is almost as nice. I wish I had a photo to show you.
I own about 2 dozen certified Dutch ducats purchased over the past ten years or so, including an 1849 that ANACS slabbed years ago as MS63, someday I'll resubmit it to NGC and see what they say. Only 14000 of these were minted, it's a pretty rare date.
Here's a ducat with a date I have only found once and I'm happy I had the opportunity to purchase it.....
Who wants to guess the grade that NGC assigned this?

I'm going to guess they said either 53 or 55. Personally I'd say 45 if I was grading it.

Very nice additions Conrad I'd like to see other pics of the half ducat myself as I can't make out the mentioned hairlines in the pic.
And for those that don't know this, that 1960 ducat (which is gorgeous by the way) is the 3rd rarest of the entire series (1586 to date) by mintage. It is a very good catch for any ducat collector !!

Doug/Anyone,
Was the West Friesland ducat minted at the Amsterdam or Dordrecht mint? or was there a West Friesland mint somewhere else??
I would like to note that the 1587 ducat was the first year of minting of the West Friesland ducat. It is of the Hungarian type design.
1586 was the first year of minting of the Netherlands-United Provinces' ducat. They were struck at the provinces of Holland,Gelderland, Friesland, Zeeland,
and Utrecht.

Hmmm, then maybe you can help my son attribute this coin (which we he fell in love with, and 'had' to buy at a coin show). All I know is that it is medieval french. I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks!

Eduard. It is a 1461-1483 Louis XI Ecu d'or a la couronne. Saint-Lo mint.

I'd let your son research the interpretation of the legends (Latin) If he can't find anything I'll help.

Conrad, thank you. You have helped us greatly.
We had trouble reading the legends as the coin seems to have been clipped, affecting the legends. My son will be happy happy.
With regards,
Eduard

Eduard - I will mention that your son's coin looks to be an ex-jewelry mount.
