My Mood:
2 Ancients for sale

The first is a byzantine coin from the 11th century.

Obverse: + (= Emmanuel) Three-quarter figure of Christ standing facing, head surrounded by nimbus cross, wearing pallium and colobrium, right hand held in blessing, left hand holding Gospel book. IC and XC in fields to left and right.

Reverse: Jewelled cross, with pellet at each extremity. In the interstices of the cross the letters IC / XC / NI / KA (= Jesus Christ victor)

The Sear reference is type 1825. Sear notes that the obverse portrait is an icon type ('Christ Antiphonetes') much loved by the empress Zoe, wife of Michael IV.

The second is Greek, from the 1st century B.C.

Seleukid Kingdom, Demetrios III AE18, 96-87 B.C.
Radiate head of Demetrios right.
BASILEWS DHMHTRIOU FILOPATOROS SOTHROS, Hermes standing left on base.
SNG Copenhagen 422

These are both relatively inexpensive coins. PM me to inquire or make an offer.
