Off set US dollar notes

hello im not a collector but i am fascinated by the hobby since i handle money every day. i now check the money going through the VW parts shop or the notes given to me from the accountant. i came across these notes and searched ebay but like the vw world i imagine what some of these folks are asking for is a dream. any how i want to know if there is any value to these notes, straight from the bank to the accountant then to me. thanks.

It's a little hard to see the extent of the error from the photos but these notes have whats called OFFSET PRINTING. This happens when a sheet of currency fails to enter the press and the plate contacts the impression cylinder when the next sheet is inserted it receives not only the intended printing on the correct side but also a transfer or OFFSET printing from the opposite side as well. These if crisp uncirculated no folds may be worth $15-25 ea. Again hard to see from the photos but if they have a complete offset worth 4 times a much.
Hope that helps.

the print is really good and complete, especially on the two left ones but no serial numbers. thanks for the heads up as im leaning towards taking them to a local dealer. so are the ones on ebay going for over $200 a dream?

Well there would be several factors to name a few condition is everything, denomination, and whether or not it's a complete offset etc.

$200 is definitely at the upper end a dealer wouldn't pay that much becasue they would have to be able to turn it for a profit.

If this is a true off set error, they will be worth more than a buck. It is one of the more common errors, however.

This can be duplicated with a computer printer, so you have to be careful about that. Since you got them at face, there is no downside if they were done on a computer printer but they would not be genuine errors.

How scarce are pre-WWII VW bugs?

well i got them from the bank. they are real, maybe ill just post em on ebay or something like that. im not expecting to get rich but like VW parts, one mans trash is another mans treasure.

on the prewar vw, that is some rare stuff!! the prewar cars were KDF cars and command a crazy amount of dough, also they all for high ranking officers and never made it to the puplic till after the war. after WWII was when VW was in British hands and were available to the public. check this site.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/ the VW history is amazing.
