With $18,000 a year just to spend on gold, you might want to read up on pre-1933 gold. Save up a couple months and buy something rare. Start a nice MS-63+ collection of Saint's or maybe a set of Type II Liberty Double Eagles.
There is a lot of gold out there that will appreciate more quickly than buying up common gold bullion like the UHR's.
If you have to pull the trigger on the $3,000 right quick and want a modern no brainer ...look into the American Gold Eagle Reverse Proof from 2006. Slabbed they run about $3,000 give or take.
