Hi, I was just looking through some pennies and found this 1974 D. I noticed right away there seemed to be something wrong with his hair and compared it with others to make sure. I think either some hair is missing or he's got an errant curl where it shouldn't be. And if it is an error, is it worth anything? Last edited by frogsong; 11-02-2009 at 06:33 PM. If it is the first, I think it is a die gouge. If the latter, maybe some die deterioration on the hair. Jim I'll add that it could also be a die crack (or as suggested a gouge) which might have the look of an extra curl of hair. And I agree completely that it is in almost all likelihood just die wear that has reduced some of the other details in the hair.
