The Mystery of the Disappearing Nose

Hi Everyone - New to Coin Talk and very excited to be here. I was going through my coin inventory the other day and found a 1973 D Jefferson Nickel in which the upper bridge of the nose was missing. I immediately referenced my CherryPickers' Guide but did not find an example of this potential variety.
My question is what do you think of the authenticity of a die variety and is it submission worthy to Mr. Fivaz and Mr. Stanton?

Thanks in advanced,

Coin Dawg

The broken nose is common on some series such as the 3 cent nickel and the Mercury dime. It is caused by excessive die polishing that leads to an erosion of the low relief areas of the die (bridge of the nose). I have never heard of a broken nose Jefferson Nickel, but it would make sense. To my knowledge this indication of a late die state is not worth any premium other than it ranks high on the cool factor. Here is a photo of a Mercury Dime showing the "broken nose" I don't own this coin, just an example.

I've never seen anything like that before. Welcome to the forum! My family originally was from Westchester County before moving here.
