What you have is die deterioration doubling . I read an article on the 99 nickles and they have extreme ddd on that year.there are no such thing as an RPm in that year. the pratice of hand punched mint makrs stopped in 1990.

The nickel in the planchets make them harder. 75% copper 25% Nickel, but because of the composition it wears the dies faster than other denominations. Very common to find examples that some call a doubled die, which they are not. Buy Nickel doubled dies with caution of this fact.

Three important points to remember when looking for RPMs:

1. They cannot be found after 1989 on any demoniation
2. If there is similar doubling occuring on the date and mintmark on a pre-1990 coin - MD is the likely culprit
3. On clad Lincoln cents (1982-1989) split plate doubling is very often on the mintmark
