indian fanam........

Just went to my local coin store and was lookin through a box of bargins, found a 'coin'; looked like a piece of fuzz or a pebble to me but it was a coin, so says the NNC. The slab said 11-13th century, Indian, 1/10 gold Fanam, smallest gold coin. Its price was $39 and it was graded by the NNC.

Your thoughts on this? Should I buy? (Its gold! )

Thanks

Found a pic online, the one I ran across wand more of an oval not this circular.

Forget about the NNC grade/graded coins and buy on raw on ebay for $10-15.

Lots of fakes...and hard to detect. I'd suggest not.

Thats what I was worried about; so would the NNC graded one be worth it or give it up?

NNC isn't a reputable company so take their opinion with a grain of salt.

I really don't think that type of a gold coin would be pleasing to anyone. Even if that was all I had enough to buy I still wouldn't buy it. I suggest you wait until December 09 until the American Gold Eagle coins go on sale from the US mint and buy a 1/10 from them. If you don't want US gold then you can buy a Panda from China or a dos pesos coin off of ebay or a coin store. India also has a 1918 full sovereign that was minted but they are quite pricey. I've seen these Farnams at a coin show once and ppl were passing them up in droves with a vengence. good luck with your gold hunt.
