Your coin shows die deterioration doubling on the date, and split plate doubling on the mintmark and all over the reverse.

RPMs technically cease after 1989 as the Mint stopped punching mintmarks into the dies and started added the mintmark to the design

Hi,

Just keep in mind that even a "nice example" is only worth one cent:-) These are not errors.

Thanks,
Bill

I see this type of damage selling on e-bay as 'double die' and any other deceitful way to try and fool the buyer.

Does this apply to all coins minted after 1989, or just the Lincoln Cent?

Great pictures jhc and BadThad!

Thanks again for all the info.

BadThad, your coin and mine must be brothers or at least cousins. Very cool.

All coins 1990 and later had the mintmarks added as a part of the engraving of the master hubs so mintmarks were no longer added by hand. So if you see anything dated after that listed as an RPM, it is impossible:-)

I just started really searching rolls and came across a 1984 D lincoln with what appears to be a rpm...any info? My digital camera is a dinosaur so I can't really get a good pic...

The web site www.coppercoins.com has pics of all known RPMs. Check it out and find a match to your coin. Then start your own new thread and post pics if you want.
