| Freedom March Medal 1965
I have an old civil rights medal and I'm wondering if anyone knows how much something like this is worth? It came in a small envelope with a small sheet and it's the same size as an ASE. I'll share what it says, see below: The only info about a mfg is a copyright stamp and (Blackbelt Sales 1966). Anyone know anything about this?
FREEDOM MARCH
On the obverse is shown the now famous "Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church" in Selma, Ala. The civil right marchers, who came from all over the United States and some foreign countries, are shown in front of the church --held there by manned police and rope barricades. They gathered there and stayed for weeks--praying, singing and attempting to break out to march on the Dallas County Court House or to Montgomery, Ala.
On the reverse--in the lower left side--shows the famous "Edmund Pettus Bridge." The marchers are seen crossing it and passing onto Highway 80 and on to Montgomery, Ala. The crowds are shown massing in front of the Alabama State Capitol, also known as the "Cradle of the Confederacy."
In the center of the reverse is shown four large figures-- a Negro, a priest, a nun, and a on-legged cripple. Hanging in the air over the four is a U.S.A. helicopter. This signifies the protection given the Freedom Marchers by the U.S. Government.
This march, without a doubt, triggered the passage of the 1965 Civil Rights Voting Act, and will be remembered in history. The march was led by Dr. Martin Luther King, a Nobel Peace Medal winner.
