1973 d Cent Error

Looking for help with this 1973 D Cent error.
Top of obverse has a large impressed chunk or cud? Directly on reverse, the CEN is missing in CENT.
Can anyone tell me the rarity, or value?
Thanks.

That's a nice large CUD. Nice find!
There's a CUD book out there that might have it listed. Value? depends on the size of the CUD and the condition of the coin. I would throw out the price of $50-100 for a nice CUD, but that's just a guess...

You really think it is worth that much? I was thinking around 20 bucks at the most. Is there a guide to determine how much they are worth, you know like the off-centered coins?

A large CUD that is uncirculated can sell for $50. I cannot tell form your pics on the condition, if it circulated $20 is probably reasonable.

The "CUD Book" might list prices, but they are likely outdated. You could try searching eBay, Teletrade and Heritage to get an idea...

Great coin. I'd say $15-$30 is fair.

A couple of years ago, I sold several cuds on ebay, and was surprised at the prices I got. One buyer said he was trying to collect ALL the major Lincoln cuds. So, there is a demand for larger cuds out there, even more than the listed values.

I really appreciate all the helpful information so far. No one has mentioned the reverse strike missing the CEN in CENT. Any added value in that?
Thanks again for the help.

The cud is so huge that the metal from the planchet filled in the cud, rather than the letters on the reverse. It flowed into the least resistance.

Check out this guy's collection of huge Lincoln cuds. Yours isn't on there, but it is similar to some of them.

I bet he would be interested in your coin.

That name sounds familiar, and he mentions buying on ebay, I wonder if it's the dude I sold some to???
