Talking Silver Penny

Hello! I was looking through my piggy bank today and found a silver penny from 1991. i was wondering if someone could let me know why this was.

welcome to cointalk! It could be missing the plating layer, coated in mercury or some other metal or on the wrong planchet. A picture and weight (from a jewelers scale) will help out alot.

My Mood:
Several popular middle school/high school chemistry lab books have this as an exercise. Probably by now thousands have been returned to circulation after the novelty wears off with the students. See how to make your own gold and silver appearing cents here

not for me, nice try though. Maybe shine a flashlight from the side (to reduce glare) and take a pic through your maginifier. Then crop the pic so it can be blown up to show detail.
