I believe ANACS was sold in December of 2007.

What you and some others would find even more surprising is that the old ANACS was probably the toughest, or strictest, grading company there was. Try finding even 1 coin, of any kind, in old ANACS slab that is graded as MS70.

With NGC and PCGS you can find tons of them. But I'd bet you can't find 3 in an ANACS slab.

Although I fully agree with you that old ANACS was very strict and didn't give out 70s like PCGS or NGC...I can't resist a challenge.

So here are your 3 MS70s in old ANACS slab:

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item...22&Lot_No=2479

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item...75&Lot_No=7382

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item...89&Lot_No=9750

But in all seriousness, you are very correct. Just look over at HA if you don't believe GD. These 3 are about the only old ANACS slabbed MS70s listed in their complete auction archive. There might be a couple more...but not many.

stunned

Jaceravone,
Thank you for your research. I'm stunned by the the drastic price drop that most people are saying an ANACS brings as opposed to a PCGS or NGC. i've been told that it costs about $30 to get a coin certified. if people are smart, could they buy an ANACS MS 70 and get it graded by PCGS and then turn a nice profit?

Thanks,
Ben

These auctions houses aren't stupid. What sells is NGC and PCGS. I don't have the time to really do some research into this, but I can't see an MS70 ASE Anacs selling for $800 or anything near that. I would speculate at most....$200-250. Thats not taking anything away from the coin because the coin may be a stunner, but that is the power of the slabs for you. Ultimately, I am not saying that it can't happen, but I just want to be shown where it has happend....any time recently. Thanks.

This might shed some light on ANACS.

Not quite sure what you mean by - might shed some light on ANACS. You posted a link to their guarantee, OK, we all knew about that. But so what ?

Their guarantee is pretty much like anybody else's. And they all say the same thing in regard to grading. But perhaps what you don't understand is this.

Say you get a coin graded by ANACS, you look at the coin and say no way that coin's an MS66. It's an MS63 at best ! So you send it back in to ANACS for them to review their grade. (It works the same way with all the other grading companies too.)

They look at the coin, say - Yup, that's an MS66.

Now what do ya do ?

It's not quite that simple, PCGS and NGC have higher grading standards than ANACS. So, you buy an ANACS MS70 and submit it to one of them...it might only grade a 68 or a 69 and then all the profit is lost.
