My Mood: | dreams of reading post 41 and beyond
Pardon me, please, for venting my frustration. I STILL cannot read beyond post 40. I have a page set up to show 40 posts and cannot move to the next page, when there is one. I get a message saying "Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand." Wish I knew what was causing that. I have no problem moving between the pages listing the various subjects (posts) in each forum; it's only within the threads I have the problem.
Happens in both Seamonkey and Firefox. I'll be $#@%ed! if I'll start using Internet Exploiter. Fortunately many threads don't go to 40+ messages but it's a bit frustrating when one I'm interested in does go beyond 40.
OK. Steam pressure reduced. I'm getting along with this restriction - I guess nothing can be done about it - <SIGH>

1. When you put the mouse pointer on the PAGE "2" in the box for page, and not click, what url reference does it give at the bottom browser bar? Such as the box below:
Page 1 of 3 1 23 >
Normally, when you are on the first page it gives "www.cointalk.com/txxxxx/" where the xxxxx represents the thread number like 70575 ( this thread's number). For the second page if there is one, the url would be "www.cointalk.com/t70575-2/
2. Does the box show up if you choose a thread with multiple pages? It should be to the right of the box with the words [REPLY]?
3. If it does, and you click the 2 for the second page, what is the url of the error message?
Where did you go to set up the browser to show 40 posts instead of the default 20? I suspect this is where the problem lies.
Jim

Jim | Go to User CP, under "Settings & Options" "Edit Options", under "Thread Display Options " "Number of Posts to Show Per Page".
I doubt that this affects his select page option. I tried it on mine and it had not affect.

I have no clue why you cannot get to other pages. On mine, there is a page select on both the top and bottom of the page.
However, I can give you a sort of fix in the mean time. The line item just above where you set the show 40 posts gives you the option of showing first to last (newest first) or last to first (oldest first). Its default is oldest first. If you chance that to newest first, the page you get to will at least be the most recent (last 40 in your case) part of the conversation.

Thread is: Buy directly from the u.s. mint only.
When I hover over the boxed 2 I see: http://www.cointalk.com/t%thread-id%-2-post516478/
Clicking on the 2 sends me to: http://www.cointalk.com/t%thread-id%-2-post516478/
and a page that says: Bad Request

as rim's cents said:

Ok, I changed mine to 40 posts and when I go to the US mint thread and hover over the page 2 it says http://www.cointalk.com/t47495-2/
but the post number in the URL you got is not the post number of the next posting it is : 608415 rather than 516478.
I will think about how the % got in there and the different format of the posting.Try clicking on the url below for the 41st post and see where it takes you.
Jim http://www.cointalk.com/showthread.php?p=608415/
should get posting #41 in that thread. I am using Firefox.

Got there, I guess. It starts off:
Wish I would have!
Now I'm on the hunt to pay a big premium on a $5 buffalo....
I am able to go to posts via the thread tree box at the top of the page but it's kinda hit and miss getting to the one I actually want. Usually get only one post but if there is a branch of of a message It seems to give me all those entries. Once I got a lot more than the one limb of the tree. What ever I get it starts off with the post being number 1
Don't know why I'm getting the [input] % marker. It doesn't happen on the index pages the list all the thread topics.

Under Edit Options "Thread Display Mode" is set ty HYBIRD. Is that the default? I don't remember changing it but wouldn't "Threaded" be more to the point?

I believe that is your problem. Change it. And no, hybrid is not default.

SIGH....so THAT'S what it was. So simple, if you can recognize it. THANK YOU!! I must have had a "blond moment" and thought Hybird must be better, though I really don't remember doing it.
(A mind is a terrible thing to loose.)
