| 2007 Gold American Eagle W vs Non-W
I know there were 47,002 2007 1/2 Ounce Gold American Eagles minted. Does anyone know how many have the W vs how many do not have the W? Also what is the real difference between the two coins? I am talking about uncirculated not the proof coins. Thanks!

Thanks! | The 2007 W (Burnished) Uncirculated Gold Eagles are not the proofs, they are special gold eagles minted specifically for collectors, and they have the W mint mark (West Point).
The mintage figures for the 2007 Gold Eagles.
Bullion 1/2 oz - 47,002
Proof 1/2 oz - 44,025
W (Burnished) 1/2 oz - 13,358
Here's a quote from the mint about the W mint coins Quote:
In 2006, the United States Mint added another member to the American Eagle family of precious metal coins. Collectors can purchase American Eagle Uncirculated Coins in silver, gold and platinum directly from the United States Mint.
Like its proof counterpart, the American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin is available in a one-ounce size, while the American Eagle Uncirculated Coins in both gold and platinum are available in one-tenth, one-quarter, one-half and one ounce sizes, as well as a complete four-coin set containing one coin of each size. The American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated Coins carry the same reverse design as the American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins.
In a process similar to that used to create the magnificent American Eagle Proof Coins, American Eagle Uncirculated Coins are hand-loaded into the coining press, struck on specially burnished blanks and carry the "W" mint mark of the United States Mint at West Point.

Thanks for the info...So is the only difference between the W and non W are the burnished blanks and the fact that they are hand loaded? Also what are burnished blanks? Thanks!

I do have the 2007 without the W...So these are the bullion version not the colelctors version which means its really just worth its weight in gold...WHich is fine since I got it for good luck piece for my daughter not to make money...I am just curious.... the only difference between the W and non W are the burnished blanks and the fact that they are hand loaded? Also what are burnished blanks? Thanks!

Burnishing is a polishing process, it gives the blanks a smooth finish.

currently apmex is quoted bid $514.34, ask $579.89 plus shipping charge of $24.95. this is for bullion am eagle 1/2 oz gold.

That makes sense, so the burnished W's have a smoother surface than the non W bullion but are not as shiny as proof's? That all makes sense to me now, I really appreciate the info. I bought my non W bullion 2007 1/2 ounce GAE off of ebay this week for $550 including shipping and its MS69 so it seems I got a good deal for a coin that my daughter will be handling which is what the bullion are for since its not really the collectors version worth much more than the price of gold?

Elaine, it also looks like the 2007W am eagle 1/2 oz unc gold are going for about$700 on ebay and are either MS69 or MS70. These seem like quite a steal. What do u think?

original cost of 2007w am eagle 1/2 oz unc gold is $379.95. during that time. the cost of 2007 bullion am eagle 1/2 oz gold is very near $379.95. so the collectors who bought 07 with w gain more.
