better?....I could be wrong, as I have been once or twice , but I wouldn't grade that coin any better than F12 and that is on a good day.

The question I have is how did that get into a graded PCGS holder?
The hits on the reverse are massive and far exceed what PCGS will normally bodybag a coin for, so how did this end up in that slab? Is it the original coin in the holder or did someone swap it out? Or is the holder fake and the coin is real?
Whatever the case may be, I cannot believe that PCGS put that coin in that holder and graded it as such.

It is definitely a genuine PCGS holder and coin with no signs of tampering.
My reaction was very similar to everyone's here when I first saw this coin. Lets just say that I bought it as more of a curiosity and at a pretty big discount.

Doesn't PCGS guarantee the difference in value from the actual grade to the misgrade?

Richard | Yes if they deem the coin to be miss graded and not a data entry error.
In this case if the messed up letters on the reverse are considered post mint damage it would be the difference between a Genuine grade and the grade on the current holder.

Just curious , I wonder how old that holder is , and it definately should be resubmitted , unless you like it as a conversation piece .

You know more than I do about this type of thing I'm sure, but shouldn't the dash between the 1 and the S be longer?

Ribbit | Are you certain that those are man-made hits on the reverse? I'd sure like to see it in hand before condemning it as such.
