Old coins of the Baltic countries

Hey all!

I wonder if these coins are popular to collect ocerally and in USA. It is not great amount of them, but design are well made, bigger denominations contain silver (from 500 to 835).

Are these coins cost mostly the same in USA like written in World Coin Catalog?

Regards,
Raimundas.

Raimundas, I would look at the eBay listings. They have thousands upon thousands coins for sale, many from all over the world. See how popular are the coins you have, and how much are people paying for them. It is not perfect, but it will give you some idea.

And the prices are rarely as high as those in catalogs...

It depends on a lot of factors. There are many coins with Krause values considerably more than their true market , others are pretty much on , and there are some that I would dearly love to get for double the amount listed in Krause .

Like any other price guide, the Krause catalogs are merely "guides", and not "bibles". Also bear in mind that they are referencing retail prices that a dealer might be expected to sell the coin for; not wholesale prices that the same dealer would be expected to pay.

The most accurate guide to true value - defined as what a willing buyer would pay a willing seller when both are in possession of the relevant facts - is the price obtained at a recent legitimate auction, conducted by a reputable house.

Because of the changing marketplace, the price realized at a Goldberg autction this year is undoubtedly more accurate than the price realized at a 2003 Heritage auction.

The biggest problem with using EBay prices as a "guide" is that "possesion of the relevant facts" element. The more EBay sales there are, the more likely it is that the average price will be close to true value.

I know that's the truth. I am still looking for a few of my Yugoslav coins to come on the market at Krause prices. Heck, even double Krause prices!! There are a few that I would pay 5-10 times Krause for.
