Credits

I just noticed in the top right corner under mood, there is a new line that says "credits". I clicked the "check" box and it brought me to another screen. Maybe this has already been brought to everyone's attention, but what is this. Thanks.

Nah, it hasn't been brought to everyone's attention. It's phase one of our new classifieds and advertising system. Of course, if I can get everything that's needed to operate it to work that is. I'll give you more on the credits system when it's all up and running, but in a nutshell you "earn" credits for being an active member, and credits can be used to "purchase" a listing in the new classifieds system. Classified listings can also be purchased with real money too, the credits are a way of rewarding the regulars at CoinTalk, and to make sure that we retain a community feel to the new system and don't end up with a lot of outsiders who come just for the classified listings (unless they want to pay for it).

I'll be interested how this plays out, I also just noticed this and luckily a quick search turned this answer up before I posted a new thread.

Is this upgrade why I could not access the site for a bit this morning?

Good Idea! It seems as though when you post you get credits? Is that the only way to obtain credits? (AHhhh, explain it when you explain everything else)

Peter also said you could purchase credits. Somehow I don't think that option will be very popular.

I'm now curious how the credits are achieved, it seems some posts are worth more than others?

I belong to the paperbackswap.com site for exchange of books, and they use a credit system. One credit buys a book, 2 an audio book, and the reverse when you sell them. Each person pays the own media mail postage when selling. Credits can be purchased from the site or "donated" person to person in the bazaar subforum. Some have accumulated 1000s of credits and they sell them by asking payment through paypal and then "donating" the credits to the other person's account. I am not an active seller ( my family loves to read) so I have to "buy" credits to keep up that habit, but they have a great site.

I was wondering if possible to donate credits such as to the Cancer account, some active dealer might wish to pay cash for them.

Peter,I know, it;s the old give them 1000 feet and they want a mile

p.s. If anyone does decide to join the PBswap, please consider me as your "sponsor" to get me a free credit.

Jim
