2005 Bison Variety Nickels

How many 2005 Bison varieties are there? Besides the P, D, & S.

There aren't any RPM's, etc, so I'm counting errors that are exactly duplicated on more than one coin. These are the ones I know of. Any others that are worth mentioning?

1) Speared Bison D
2) Detached Leg
3) Doubled Tail and Back
4) Runny Nose
5) Fancy "A"
6) Bad Eye
7) Hooked "E"
8) 5 Legged
9) Filled "O"
10) Die fill
11) Die crack 1
12) Die crack 2
13) Die Crack 3
14) Extra hair on Leg
15) Speared Bison P die crack
16) Speared Head
17) Speared Foot
18) plus may other filled letters, die cracks, gouges, and polishes

repunched mint mark.

Yes I have Photos of most, the others are on ebay.

I didn't post photos because that's a lot of pix and it would take some time. I will post any specific ones you want to see. Just name them. I don't have the speared, detached leg, or 5 legged so look on ebay for those.

I just added to the list. I think this may be one of the most searched coins of all times.

I for one, am putting together a "type set" of the Bison Varieties. I finally broke down and bought a Speared Bison D as well as a P. I already have most of the other varieties, but there are a few ones I see on ebay I still need to pick up.

As soon as the mint releases the next wave of bisons that are on back order, I suspect you will see a lot more new varieties.

Do small die breaks count? I don't think I saw any of these listed. Got a few with a nice pieces with cuds on the S of CENTS and another in the E of STATES. The die break in the S of STATES comes in 2 sizes, small and large, completely filling the upper loop of the S. The cud on the E of STATES completely fills the lower section.

I found these Spiked Chin varieties in April from Southern Indiana and managed to sell a couple of them on eBay.

Who says there wasn't ? There are probably just as many, if not more, die crack and die chip errors on the old Buffs as there are on the new ones. Difference is - back then, and to a large degree even today, they were/are considered to be inconsequential by most collectors.

Veriety Bisons

There are so many errors with the new Bisons it is amazing. I have a had some success selling my favorite errors on eBay, the Deatched Leg and Extra Leg errors like below. I wounder how many errors there are going to be on the new Ocean in View Nickels, I have already started to see a few die cracks listed.

Kurt

Thanks Roy.
I must agree with them, too many different errors. Some of them go overboard.

My Mood:
most products, and most likely dies, are poor in quality nowdays (poor composition of metal, etc).
