Morgans Inherited

I have inherited lots of various coins and collections. I am interested in the value of a few of the Morgans as I may need to sell them for expenses that unexpectedly occurred. If anyone can offer any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. My simple research indicates that these coins may be the most valuable but I am unsure and have lots more Morgans!
1890 prf
1892S AU
1894O MS63
1897O MS63
1903S MS63
I have not done any research on the 1878-1887 coins. I have most years and mints.

Photos would be great....make sure to hole them right....by the rim (or edge) and don't clean them at all...

If the 1890 is a proof it would be worth a great deal I think....

Look to see if any of your coins have the CC mint mark...they seem to sell better and for more.

BTW--if you are going to sell them I would go to a few dealer and get a bid on what they would be willing to give you...I would guess that the bid would only be good for a few days.

You might get more or less on ebay.

Hi Karen, Welcome to the forum,

You stated that a few of your coins are MS 63 are they professionally graded? As for the current value, as many people here have said before, watch the auctions on ebay. There is a big market for Morgans, I'm sure you want have any trouble finding a reference point for your coins.

Howdy Karen - Welcome to the Forum !!

Since you are interested in selling the collection it might be best for you to get a professional appraisal. Determining the value of any coin is not quite as simple as it may seem. Be aware that such an appraisal is not free, and I would be sure to say up front that you are not interested in selling to the person who does the appraisal.

If you can send me a Private Message with where you are in the country, not particular info, just general area - I can probably make some suggestions on who you can contact to accomplish this.

The coins are currently in older folders with notations on them, however, I found all the coin sale jackets and all were purchased and graded by coin dealers. The original price paid is there as well. I will attempt to photograph them tomorrow and will do it as suggested, carefully. I have MANY other coins and have most years and mints on the Morgans. CC for almost every year but some missing and/or sold. (probably the most valuable!) This entire collection is extensive and is not limited to the Morgans. I am just touching on these as a starter and will be looking for future help on others. I did do some work on ebay and am seeing the more expensive Morgans don't seem to be moving. I will continue to watch ebay and any other suggested sites. I am very unsure as to who in the coin world is trustworthy. CT Yankee phobia, I guess! Thanks so much and photos to follow. Karen M

you might want to deal with an auction house as they will grade - value and sell your coin - they usually add their fee to selling price.

Any auction house suggestions in the CT-NY area? I found photos are not easy to do and I am getting prices with a big range on some of the pieces.

Also, sometimes it is a good idea (price-wise) to sell a collection as a whole, rather than piece by piece. That's because for many people a complete set of <something> is much more than a simple sum of the elements...

Just a suggestion... You may want to check www.heritagecoin.com. They host coin auctions and are very reputable. I've had luck with them.

PS you can search historical relaized values, even if you don't sell.
