Welcome to CT

I recently started collecting coins too. So far I am collecting contemporary coins from my country (India).

Good luck with your collection. You will find lots of useful information here.

welcome to the forum. I think that as you pursue numismatics you will find yourself drawn more to certain coins or goals. Some collectors like the absolute best examples of a coin they can find, those can get pretty pricey sometimes, some collectors like to find and complete sets, some also want every error and variation they can find. Some like to collect bullion coins, coins more valued for their intrinsic metal content, things such as silver eagles or silver rounds. One of the most important rules that I have heard is to collect what you like. So far I am a bit eclectic myself, I like too many things, and have not really found a laserlike focus on anything particular yet.

I immediately knew you were from Kansas City because of your username. Welcome! I lived there back in '03 and '04, but am back home about 2 hours east of there now.
