| Finally Completed my Date Run of Capped Bust Dimes: 1828 - Large Date.
I was finally able to find an 1828 JR-2, large date, large diameter Bust Dime to complete my date run of capped bust dimes. I am a 'happy camper'.
Only 2 varieties were minted this year: JR-1 is the small date, small diameter, minted in a closed collar. JR-2 is the last of the large diameter dimes, struck in an open collar.
JR-2 is only rated 'scarce' at R-3, BUT it was surprisingly difficult to locate. I have seen more 1809, 1811/9 and even 1822 dimes on eBAY than 1828 JR-2's. In fact, this was the first large date 1828 I saw in about a year. I guess they are heavily hoarded, or else they are scarcer than assumed.
This example is not perfect, it does have an edge nick and light scrapes, but, it is quite well detailed and I think originally toned. What do you all think?

As i said, it is only a date run - one of each date, including all keys (except the 1829 curl base 2). I would never attempt a complete variety set, that is way more than I can manage as I also focus on large cents (and there are close to 300 varieties of those!)
Love these capped bust dimes, specially the large diameters - they have a certain charm to them.

I'm trying to do the same thing with Capped Bust half dimes.
Those dudes are hard to find.

Great addition. I too look forward to seeing them all together.
I am currently working on the 1834-1838 Half Eagle Variety set, 34 known so it will be a while before it's completed.
