Hello from New York

I just registered with the forum tonight. Some of you may know me already, I have posted on the Collector's Universe forums for a little over a year now. I thought I would stop by and say hello!

As for myself, I am 24 and I devote most of my life to NASCAR in many various aspects. I still fit in a little time for coin and currency collecting, though.

I started really collecting in April of 2008 when I found a small stash my late father had hidden away. It consisted of a few Peace dollars, one Morgan, and a hanfull of Mercury dimes and a whole lot of wheat cents. In addition, there were a handfull of older pieces of paper money, including one large size note and some other cool stuff that I will share in time, I don't want to use up ALL my material right away Looking through all of them sparked something inside me and I've been on a coin and currency kick that has lasted for more then a year. Back in 1995 and 1996 (I think-based on the small stash I had) I collected a very little bit, but when I say little bit I mean I had gathered less then 20 coins. I have also collected the State Quarters since they started, but I count really becoming a collector as April 2008, not 1999.

Since then (April 08) I have been doing a lot of reading and a very little buying, as I just have too many other more pressing matters then buying new pieces for my collection. I collect everything- I don't limit myself at all. If I see something, like it, and can afford it, I bring it home. It has led to a very eclectic collection but that's ok because that is just how I want it.

I am also a member of the ANA and shortly will be a member of the SPMC as well, hopefully by the end of the year.

While the majority of my collection is coins from my home, the USA, I have a pretty decent collection of Canadian coins as well. I spend a lot of time in Lake George, NY, which is a popular vacation destination for many Canadians, and I even have gotten Canadians from my bank. But even better, I have a friend in Canada who periocially sends me his pocket change!

I also have a big interest in history, with a focus on antiquity and ancient Rome in particular.

I have a lot of free time, so I tend to talk a lot. I try to make all my posts worth reading, however, and I tend to ramble, probably right now even.

Here is me-

Here is a pretty bad picture of the 4 Peace and 1 Morgan dollar that kick-started me collecting. Despite the fact that I am a multi-time published photographer I just can't seem to get the hang of coin pictures. I keep trying!

By the way, I do NOT collect graded coins and I prefer circulated. I am also not a big fan of toning.

Well, that about sums me up in a nutshell. Thanks for reading...

Welcome to cointalk, like you I also became interested in coins as a result of my dads passing away. As I was researching the values of his coins in order to divide his estate, I started to become more personally interested.

Welcome to CoinTalk Billy,
Nice modeling on the cars. I'm a borderline NASCAR fan myself, I live about 12 miles from MIS.

Thanks for the welcomes! Cool to see other residents of my home state. I don't know how much I will have to contribute, but I will when I can!

I don't think I mentioned in my original post that I am a model builder...good eye picking them out as models! I built all the cars in my picture.
