Lucky Day Today

Haven't found much of late, and certainly not much silver. Today was a little different. We found these two along a footpath in the woods. The larger coin is a 20 kreuzer from Austria. The smaller one is my favourite, found by my son, a 6 Kreuzer from Hessen-Darmstadt dated 1819. A scarce little coin in pretty good condition. I'll see if it can get the remaining of the crud off.

Great find.....I love poking around in old trash dumps and historic building sites....one never knows what one will find! I have found old gun barrells, shoes buttons, coins..... I found this item in an old mining town in central Co. while exploring an old mine shaft and the ghost town around the mine. I got a barrell ring caught around my ankel while going for a short cut thru a trash dump!

The 6 kreuzer coin I found cleaned up real well, and I am thrilled about how it looks. It must have been almost uncirculated when it was lost, as it still has some luster remaining.

Lots of patience and many toothpicks later this is the way it looks. This is actually a scarce little coin, only a two year type, and one I would have paid good money for if i had found it for sale. I happen to collect minor german state coinage of this era, so finding this is a real stroke of luck!

paddy54, that is an interesting looking object. Do you know how old it is? The old miners weren't jus diggin in those old mine shafts it seems!

That is fantastic! You showed me up—I was a little excited when I found my first dollar coin while detecting the other day. It was nothing special, a recent Sacagawea dollar, but still my first dollar. But that’s nothing on you! Beautiful coin.

Eduard, The age I would think was around the gold rush years of the U.S. This was found back in 1972 as a 18 y/o guy who thought he was headed for Viet Nam I went on walk about to clear my head before I was inducted.I climbed to the top of the continental divide near central Co. I took a short cut down the mountain thru a garbage dump got caught up in a barrell ring and fell down! The is a tag made of brass for the whiskey that was in the barrell. The wood of course was long gone.It stills sits on my desk today as a souvenir of youth. 1840's thru 1860's but just guessing. The Name of the town I was near was St. Elmo an old minning town . Thanks all. Yes, this was a very good find. I still can't believe how nice the coin is. It's one of my favourites.

No problem Treashunt, but i warn you, it can be real hard going. I tend to cover cover a lot of ground when i am searching....

Went back again yesterday to the spot where these two were found, hoping for more finds. Since we missed these two first time we walked over the footpath, I thought it worthwile to look again. Nothing.....well, almost nothing besides this SA buckle, (a sad reminder of some terrible times in our country - still, a witness to the past).
