That is one tough date, and it is getting very tough in all grades down to G-4.
At one time is was considered nothing more than a common date. No longer.
And Barber quarter collector knows how difficult that coin is in any grade, and often a low grade one occupies a high grade set.
You have an MS-64, and I appreciate your showing it! I have never see one before, and I have been searching for a nice AU for years (at least 15 years) and the best that I have ever seen is a F-12.
In fact, when a F-12 was bid at $30 I was offered $100 for it. I am glad that I turned it down, since I have never seen another.
Great date & MM, great condition.
You're 100% right about the 1909-O quarter being very tough and highly undervalued in just about all price guides. The last AU58 to auction last year brought $4,025!!! Currently the price in the Greysheet for an AU is less than $500. In short, buy any certified 1909-O quarter you find at the Greysheet prices and you'll do fine!!!
One of the 1909-O PCGS MS66 Quarters is going for auction next month at Heritage in part of the Duckor collection. Now that is a coin I can dream about!!!!
I am 24, so just barely qualify for the two entries.
I love those liberty nickels, so I have to go with that one. Maybe it is just the photo, but there appears to be a red mark underneath the I in United on the reverse. Any idea what that is? other than that an amazing coin.

Just took a look at the coin and there is nothing on the coin in that spot... probably just me not properly lighting the coin. I really like this one too.
However, in case anyone was wondering, my favorite coin in the set right now is probably the 1909-O Barber Half. Booming with luster and has a very nice rose colored toning on parts of it. Amazing strike for a final year New Orleans Half.
Welcome to CT! That's an amazing collection. Hands down I like the 1909S $10 Eagle (AU53) That's right down my alley and a particular design and coin of interest to me. I can't believe you are offering a contest so early on. I think your generosity will be greatly rewarded here as well. Cheers!
The entire set is fantastic, but if I had to pick one, I probably pick two
I like the 1909-D Barber Quarter, mostly because it is beautifully toned and has great detail, and the 1909-S Barber Half FS-501, love the blast white look and clean fields and devices.
Ok I'll pick one, the quarter, but I think the reverse design of the Barber quarter and half is tops on my list, it's a tough choice.
Why of course the IHC. What a beauty. Of course the others aren't bad either. That is a very nice set. Here is my 1909 RB coin - not in the same category as yours, but still fits in the set. Once again very nice registry set.

Empty airtite seeks unwanted coins. All sizes welcome.
You have some very nice coins there - very nice. I know that I am a Lincoln collector, but that 1909-S 50˘ just catches my looks.
BTW, welcome to CT. It looks like I will enjoy your stay.

They're all beautiful examples. I think I'm going to vote for your 1909-D Double Eagle. Something about a large gold coin with a really low mintage that just draws me in.

UNDER 18 (I'm 15)
Hmm...I would have to go with the 1909-S V.D.B. (not that any other of your coins are not beautiful) First off I have never even thought of collecting a Year, and honestly I am now considering to sway my collection towards a year collection (The concept is very cool) The reason I pick this coin is because it is my dream to have this coin! If I really saved I could afford a low grade G4/VG8 (maybe) but I don't want this...What I want, and am wiling to wait for is a nice MS 1909-S V.D.B. Truly even if I don't win this contest (which I most likely wont) I am happy you posted this, because I think I am going to collect in a new direction!
Thank you Illini420. Welcome to CT. I would have to say that my favorite coins in your set are the 1909 $10 Indian Heads. Earlier tonight I was just showing my wife's uncle a few on PCGS. That coin is so sharp and to hold one in your hands in awesome. Thanks for the contest!

1909 inverted S half is my favorite. The inverted MM is interesting, the fact that it has made it 100 years in such a nice condition, I really like the barber design. I wonder what holds it back from a higher grade. simply amazing set you have there! Thanks for the awesome contest. Welcome to Cointalk.

I originally purchased the 1909-S Half in an NGC MS65 holder. After talking to a couple of Barber Half experts the general consensus was that this particular coin had likely been dipped to presumably remove some unattractive toning. During the process, the luster of the coin became slightly muted, which keeps it from a higher grade. You can see the difference in hand very easily in comparing the luster of my 1909-O MS65 Half which is very original and the somewhat muted luster of the 1909-S Half.
NGC thought it was an MS65. I sent it in to PCGS to get the variety attributed on the holder and to cross it to a PCGS holder so I could put it in my registry set and they thought it was an MS64. Since I'm not planning on selling it anytime soon, I don't think the "downgrade" will hurt me much.
Goldstone: I think waiting for the coin you really want will serve you well in the long run. When I started this set, I purchased a few lower graded examples as hole fillers when they became available, mostly because I was just impatient. Of course, when I found the coin I really wanted, I either had to sell the lower coin first or I was stuck with two coins. Would have saved myself a lot of trouble and a little money if I just waited for the right coin since the beginning. In my set right now, there are still a few that I bought on impulse and that I'll upgrade someday
And for those of you choosing the $10 Indians, that design is definitely one of my favorites. Especially the edge design with the raised stars, which is unfortunately completely hidden from view in the PCGS holders
Wow Harryj, that's a sweet 1909-S VDB. Looks to be just about full red too!!
