2006-W (1/2 oz) Gold Eagles - MS-69 PCGS

I am thinking of buying this coin the person selling it wants $435.00 I dont know much about coins and have had trouble finding others of this graded PCGS coin to compair value. I did find out that the mintage numbers on this year were low compaired to others. The one I want to buy is in a PCGS holder that says 2006-W (1/2 oz) Gold Eagles - MS-69 PCGS. Is this a good buy?

Umm, since gold is more than $870/oz, I would say yes.

thanks! is this coin a good one to collect or is it just a bullion coin. I know it has a half ounce of gold but is there any value beyond the gold?.

I'd think about it before cracking it out. Look on eBay at what half ounces are selling for raw. Then look at prices for PCGS graded ones. It's up to you.

First it certifies the coin is not fake. Second it attracts suckers who will pay $600 for it.

Some people have more money than brains. As mentioned previously just watch a few eBay auctions for similar coins. Some time ago a Texas firm;
Universal Coin & Bullion published a list of the more desired dates.
The best lower mintage $25 Gold Eagles are sought for inclusion in Individual Retirement Accounts. Many have already been locked up in IRA plans.
This places a premium on the better dates due to lower survival rates and perceived unavailability. The best year was 1991 with just 24,100 produced.
