The chances are that if the date of a 1972 cent is easily recognized as "doubled", but none of the lettering, it is machine doubling of the date. The true doubled die varieties of the 1972P that have the doubling only in the date are very difficult to see and identify. Photos are necessary for us to validate, and if you search there are many threads on machine doubling that might help you have a better idea. Again Welcome! The 1972 that i have is really not that easy to see. But it is doubled. I really had to look at it. Thats why i went to a dealer to let him take a look. It was very obvious. I wasn't even looking for errors, just sorting out coppers. It even had some luster left.
