I have always liked the reverse on the Ike and SBA and was glad they kept it for a little longer. I feel that it is the best part of both coins...but I also have a very strong interest in the space program and the reverse is nearly a direct copy of the Apollo 11 patch.

Well I think both coins, in general were ugly, OBVERSE and REVERSE.
If the reverse was the best part of those coins, that shows how ugly of a coin it truly was.
Always neat to find them in circulation, but I think it is more fun just to throw em' back...

I guess it has a lot to do with opinions of what the reverse represents, and the design.
I personally don't like the reverse, but if I had more support for the space program, and what the reverse of the coin really means, then I might like it more.
It is ugly

T$, the Apollo 11 had a small vehicle that left the orbiting ship and landed on the moon in 1969, July 20 if I remember correctly. The name of the vehicle was the "Eagle." The astronaut's famous quote at the time was "The Eagle has landed." I was just a boy, but my Dad made me watch it as it was history. Wise man as I am greatful I saw this history-making-event live.

I worked in the Space Program indirectly for 10 years and live just a few miles from NASA's Johnson Space Center. Many of my friends still work for NASA. The representation of a real eagle landing on the moon symbolic of the space ship "Eagle" landing on the moon, with the earth in the background is a fantastic commemorative to a great, great moment in both American and world history.

I LOVE that reverse. Sorry for hopping on a soap box, but you asked what it represented.

Now back to your regular programing.

Bob

No I never asked what it meant, I know what it means.
I still don't like the reverse at all or the obverse, both are ugly, remember just my opinion.

Sorry, T$. I thought you didn't know what it really means by the above quote. In re-reading, I can see how you meant it a different way.

And I'm very cool with different opinions.

I don't collect Ikes, but I was impressed enough with the reverse to use it as my avatar. I like the earth in the background.

I like Ike proofs, but I agree the Bi-centenial reverse is loser.
