If you imagine the cent put into the tight coin pocket of a pair of levis (tm) and rubbed back and forth, maybe with other coins, I can see why it looks like someone cleaned it. I can also imagine most of the movement would be on one direction until it was removed and re-entered circulation. A whizzed coin will display a very different look from your coin (at least as imaged) and unnatural luster.
