My Mood: | US FRN Web-Press Notes
I have been working on a small project the last few weeks for building a page on my website for my web note collection. And it is now done. For those of you who are familiar with web notes, you might be familiar with some of the sources from which i got alot of the information to describe to visitors what a web note is.
are you not very familiar with what a web note is? You can visit my site, do a search here on the forum as this topic has been discussed in great detail over the years, or you can search the internet. I tried to take the best information from some of the top sites, and bring it together in 1 place. sources were documented!
I have close to 50 or so webs out of the 240+ needed for a complete collection. There are several ways to collect web notes, each is described on my site, and how one collects webs is entirely up to them!
so take a lok here and tell me what you think
Thanks for looking, and please do tell me what you think

Daggarjon, funny you should post this today. I just bid on a web note yesterday, but got outbid, would've been my first. You list a lot of helpful info and I will use it on my quest. Thanks and good luck on yours.

You'll be the first PM should I decide to start unloading them.

you cant really take published prices as truth! for the most part, selling prices are much less! If you look at auctions for web notes that start at 99cents with no reserve, they never reach published price levels. The only time they might, is if the seller has a high starting price because they think the notes are really that rare.
Most folks forget the 2 factors that set price points - supply AND demand. It doesnt matter if there is only 5 notes of a particular style ... if only 4 folks want them, the value is really low.
Established price guides for webnotes are often very wrong. Im not sure if when those guides were established that notes actually sold for those prices, but for the most part - they do not now. Maybe demand for web notes is at a super low level right now... i dont know.
I chuckle when i see 1995 web note onEbay for $30 to $100 each. they wont sell. If they do, the buyer either doesnt know the real values, or they just really want that note - especially if the note is a high graded note.
coin price guides are never accurate, currency price guides are never accurate - web note guides are never accurate. look at completed auctions for both graded and ungraded for an accurate guide. Its the only way to get an accurate picture of price points.

Very nice DJ, a challenging collection I'm sure!
The only thing I thought might aid the novice viewer (ie, me) was the initial description of how to recognize a web note. You say in the text how to differentiate between sheet and web notes, but then the photos and red circles are just a bit confusing frankly. Why not scan in one sheet, and one web note, and give us a nice close-up image of just the areas with the differences, listing the captions "web note" and "sheet note" under each. I think it would be much more clear that way.
I bet I finish my one-of-each collections of African notes before you find all these web notes

thanks for the critique Dave
I saw another webnote site that had a description of the difference much the way you describe. While it can be easier to some, a novice to paper money collecting could easily get lost as to what part of the note they are looking at when looking at a close up image of say the front plate number. I thought it would be much easier to a wider audience if i showed the whole note, with the areas of interest (or differance) highlighted (a method i copied from yet another site on webs lol)
I will play around with a test page to see if maybe i can clear the images up to offer a better explanation
and i will admit... i too think you shall finish your African notes before i finish my web note collection. The web note collection is one that just cant be completed with a person with a budget the size of mine i will get close... someday, but i doubt i will ever complete it!
