Agreed, nothing leads me to believe that this person is a scammer.
And to the OP, thanks for the link, those are some nice coins that, that seller has up for sale

You're respected in these parts Mark Feld so can you spill the beans if you know the dealer?

I haven't bid in ages myself but anyone selling such high dollar coins to START on ebay makes me real suspicious.

Unfortunately that is a twist that ebay has taken.

Agreed, and the fact is he may well be legimate... but you have to question why a dealer would list 1.5 million worth of coins on eBay as a new seller. I understand everyone has to start somewhere, but if you are a high profile dealer, wouldn't it make sense to state that on your auction page? At least have a "me" page and be ID verified; anything to give the buyer a little confidence. He does have good feedback for some coins over $1000; but that in itself would not be enough for me make an offer. As fas as the OP regarding rarity... is there any history on the sale of these pattern coins?

Everyone is just speculating here. There is nothing that should lead any of us to believe that he is a bad dealer, or a scam artist.
Tell ya' what, let's keep an eye on this seller, and I'd like to be proven wrong. I honestly just think that this guy is a dealer, with nice coins, and selling some of the things he can't sell on ebay, just to see if anybody will buy them.

Those are certainly fair points as far as I'm concerned. But the fact that you and I would do things differently doesn't say anything about the seller being a scammer. Based on the seller's location, I have a couple of ideas regarding who it is and am trying to verify it.

By the way, it is not that uncommon for some sellers to list very high value items, not with the intent of actually selling them on Ebay, but rather, in order to elicit inquiries and possibly obtain new clients.

I have viewed a handful of the 1916 pattern Walkers over the years and think they are really cool coins.

OK, so I just confirmed who the seller is....

I checked a few of the listings/images and saw the same label on the back of each coin holder. It included the letters "RLHE" and a phone number, which is the number for well known dealer Robert L. Hughes. He was one of the three dealers on my guess list.

Good to hear that this is actually a well respected dealer. I never said he wasn't, I was just being justifiably cautions and suspicious.

I don't blame you in the least. Now, as for the "well respected" part - that depends largely on his cash flow.

Or in the case of places like Coin Vault I have seen them in the past list stuff on eBay with ridiculous prices and then make claims on the air that these pieces are listed on eBay for said prices to bolster credibility for their on-air pricing.

It appears to me to be twice the regular retail price fairly consistently.

I would certainly be cautious with a seller who has low feedback or is a new seller just because they don't have much of a history on eBay. But, I can't imagine buying really high end coins on eBay anyway. I just don't trust eBay enough. I would think if the seller really wanted to sell these coins they would be on HA...which is a much more respected and serious venue for high dollar coins IMHO.

Could the seller be Bobby Hughes?
