Hi there,
I have a question pertaining to 1927 D lincoln cents. I was sorting through some Lincolns today and these caught my eye. I have two types of 1927 D's.
One has what I would call "normal" placement of the mintmark, between the 9 and 2 of the date, and the top of the D is about parallel with the bottom of the 9.
The other variety caught my eye since while I was sorting them, I thought they were just 1927 plains. But on my second run through the coins, I noticed that there was a D. I have two of these types. The D is placed between the 2 and the 7, favoring the 2 side. It is also placed perhaps 1.5 to 2 mm below the 2, very close to the rim.
I found these quite odd, and haven't been able to find any reference to these anywhere. I googled and looked at many forums... and this seemed to have a nice following of polite, informed people... and thought I'd give it a try.
I haven't seen this on any other dates or even any other 1927's... just on the 2 pennies I received today in a lot.
Any and all information would be much appreciated.
If needed, I can add a picture, if I can find where the camera is
Thanks in advance
