1864 two cents? Is this coin large or small motto?

Hi folks - I have been looking at different auctions and sites where I can see the difference between Large and Small Motto 1864 2 cents, I still can't tell the difference. Can anyone tell what this coin is, and why?

Where is "motto" in the motto? In God's motto we trust? (just a typo, I'm sure but struck me as funny) Please clarify, as I have wondered about this too.

Looks like a large motto..easiest way to tell is the stem on the right leaf.

Got the site from GD a while back when I had the same question.

    Small picture but large motto.

Look at the link in the above thread and it's much easier to differentiate. I don't go by stems etc. If I can't see any of the motto I don't want it.

To me the small motto "floats in the banner" whereas the large motto "fills the benner".

Nice large motto by the way.

Good link, that answers the question. The letters in the SM look sort of squat, whereas in the LM they appear vertically elongated-- "filling the ribbon." Thanks.

Never argue with Clembo on these (or me).

    LOL.

    Yup, large motto.

But, I do go by the stem when looking thru a dealer's showcase.

When photo's of the '64 two cent arn't the best I look at the U in TRUST. The Large Motto U amost reaches the lower edge of the ribbon. It is usually easier to see than some of the other key points.
