| 1 kilo silver coins commemorating sport events
Hi everybody from Italy.
I have started investing in precious metal coins two years ago, but after the first arrivals, I switched immediately to coin collecting.
I am keen on sports, so I decided to focus on coins commemorative of sport events.
I was willing to have a complete collection, if possible, and so I decided to focus on 1 kilo silver coins.
During a couple of years I think I had been able to complete my collection, and I am still acquiring new coins that are minted.
Here is a brief recap of the coins, in order of date: 1. The Sydney 2000 Olympic coin collection. Olympic kilo masterpiece (Australia) 2. Football World's Cup 2002 (Russia) 3. Die 1-Kilo-Silber-Gedenkmuenze zu den Olympischen Spielen 2004 (Belarus) 4. The Commemorative Silver Coin of 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany (China) 5. $30 One Kilo Fine Silver Coin - Commonwealth games (Australia) 6. Soccer World Cup Germany 2006 (Liberia) 7. Sports Montage. 1 Kilo Silver Proof Coin - Asian games (Qatar) 8. Die 1-Kilo-Silber-Gedenkmuenze zu den Olympischen Spielen 2008 (Belarus) 9. 2007 $250 Silver Coin. Early Canada - 2010 Winter Olympic games (Canada) 10. The official precious metal commemorative coin programme for the games of the XXIX Olympiad. Series II. 1 Kilogram Silver Coin (China) 11. 50€ Silver Brilliant Uncirculated - Rugby world cup (France) 12. The official precious metal commemorative coin programme for the games of the XXIX Olympiad. Series III. 1 Kilogram Silver Coin (China) 13. 2008 $250 Silver Coin. Towards Confederation - 2010 Winter Olympic Games (Canada) 14. 2009 $250 Silver Coin. Surviving the flood - 2010 Winter Paralympic Games (Canada) 15. 2009 $250 Silver Coin. Modern Canada - 2010 Winter Olympic Games (Canada)
I will post soon the schedes of the coins, pics and their details.
I hope to share info on this very unique collection, and to check if they are actually all the Legal Tender coins, weighting one kilo, in silver, commemorating sport events ever minted.
Hi for now,
Piero

Welcome to COinTalk! As far as I know they are all legal tender. That sure is one heck of a collection(and expensive too). I have never seen anyone actually collect the silver kilos. |

ATHENS 2004 Coin name: Die 1-Kilo-Silber-Gedenkmuenze zu den Olympischen Spielen 2004 State: Belarus Law: N/A Date of issue: 24 August 2004 Denomination: 1.000 roubles Metal, fineness: Silver 999/1.000 Total weight (gr): 1.000,00 Fine metal content not less than (gr): 1.000,00 Diameter (mm): 100,00 Thickness (mm): N/D Edge: Plain. Zaskevitch (Belarus) CoA: 096/650 The coin comes in a presentation case (I own also a coin without CoA and presentation case). --- One reason I like this part of my numismatic collection is that I have not to focus on a single country and/or on a single author, but I have to pay attention to all the mints of the world, and I have also to find many different ways of buying the coins.

A lot of work has gone into identifying that list of yours--there are some fairly obscure coins you've found there--and more has gone into finding suppliers. I cannot add any other coins to your list: all I can do is applaud your achievement.
Near misses for your list are the three one-kilo silver US commemoratives for the 2008 Olympic Games (featuring the Great Wall, a Dragon, and Panda Sam). But these were issued by the US Olympic Committee, not the US Mint, so they are medals rather than coins ... and anyway, I'm sure you already know about them.
Slightly further off the wall is the 2001 Cook Islands Moby Dick commemorative. That's a genuine silver coin, but it weighs two kilos rather than one, and you'd have to accept whale fishing as a sport!
Later,
John

Later,
John | Yep, I have seen them, and also a similar plate/medal commemorating the equestrian Olimpics held in Hong Kong, issued by the Chinese Olympic commitee. My income does not allow to buy everything, and then I have fixed the "border" of collecting only Legal Tender.
By the way: I have just discovered that Liberia has issued in 2008 a 1 kg silver coin commemorating the 2008 European football (soccer) championship. I am trying to buy also this one, and I hope to post soon another schede. |
