| Silver art bar collector
Hello all,
Like i said to 1970 Silver Art Bars in another thread, i'm also a Silver Art Bar collector and new to this forum.
I live in Belgium (Europe) where the 'Silver Art Bars' are scarce to find.
Hope i can meet more collectors here and share info about the Silver Art Bars.
Greeting,
Orpheus72

Orpheus72, I am very impressed with the silver art bar collection that you have when I went to your website. I like your silver art bar collection. I like the Mother-Lode mint art bars that you displayed on your website. When I go to my next coin show, I am going to try to find a Mother Lode silver art bar that has The U.S. Capital on the front. I think "The Capital" Mother Lode silver art bar was minted in 1973. My goal is to also find and buy more of the USSC silver art bars.
I also have some of the art bars that you displayed on your website. In my photo album in my public profile, I have only displayed 5 silver art bars of my entire 1970's silver art bar collection because it would take too long to post all of the pics in my photo album. I plan to buy more '70's silver art bars when I go to my local coin dealer and to coin shows in my area. As I buy more 1970's 1-oz silver art bars, I will display a few of my favorite ones on this forum in my album that is located on my public profile.
The 1970's 1-oz silver art bars are also hard to find in the U.S. I just have to be patient.
I think that we can share knowledge about silver art bars in the future since we have the same interest in silver art bars. I am still learning about 1970's silver art bars so I do not mind learning from other people. Most of my silver art bar collection consists of 1970's 1-oz silver art bars but I also have some modern silver art bars.
I love collecting '70's silver art bars and I plan to buy more in the future.

Hello 1970 Silver Art,
The Mother Lode Mint with 'The U.S. Capital' on the front was indeed minted in 1973 and is found in the 'catalog of silver art bars volume V by archie kidd' under MLM-6. It's mintage was 4.000 bars, not serialized and with the regular type 3 reverse. As the bar is not a 'rare' bar, it must be possible to find it. Also some of the USSC bars are verry common, and therefore easy to find (even on ebay at fair prices)
I've also took a look at your bars and they are some great bars, you even have a E.J. Aleo bar, wich i don't have. (EJA-5, minted in 1973, mintage 3.900).
When you need more info about your bars, you may always send me images to identify them.
If you really plan to collect more, you shoud get a copy of Archie Kidd's 'Guide Book of Silver Art Bars' where all the known bars are pictured in, and containing mintage numbers and variations. I also am a menber of IASAC (International Associaton of Silver Art Collectors) (IASAC member 762), a great club where archie is chairman. It may be something for you? you can follow the link on my homepage to get to the clubs site.

It may be something for you? you can follow the link on my homepage to get to the clubs site. | I am familiar with this silver art bar price guide. I have the 6th edition of this silver art bar guide by Archie Kidd. The 5th edition has most of the 1970's 1-oz silver art bars in it. I will eventually plan to buy the 5th edition of this guide but it is very expensive based on what I have seen on ebay in the U.S. I think the 5th edition of Archie Kidd's silver art bar price guide was published in 1991 but I could be wrong on that.
I can pay a lower price for the 1970's 1-oz silver art bars when I buy them locally at my local coin shop and at coin shows than I ever could on ebay. Based on what I have seen on ebay, the prices for 1970's silver art bars are priced higher than for what I can pay for them locally. That is one reason that I prefer to buy 1-oz 1970's silver art bars locally from my coin dealer instead of buying them on ebay.
When I buy 1970's silver art bars locally from my coin dealer or coin show, I, on average will pay between $1.50 to $3.00 over spot silver price.
I do, however, have some luck on ebay of finding some 1970's silver art bars. For example, I was recently able to find and win an ebay auction for a 1974 Hamilton Mint 1-oz silver art bar for $16.61 with free shipping when spot price was at $14.69/oz. I will not completely eliminate ebay because I can sometimes find good deals there. IMO most of the time, the prices on 1-oz 1970's silver art bars on ebay are much higher than buying locally based on my experience of buying 1970's 1-oz silver art bars. I tend to do better pricewise when I buy 1970's silver art bars locally as opposed to buying them in ebay. Most of the ebay prices for 1970's silver art bars are between $20-$25 when you factor in shipping and insurance costs. Sorry for reapeating myself on this post.
I agree with you on the point that there are many 1970's 1-oz silver art bars on ebay but I can beat most of those ebay prices by buying them locally from a coin dealer or at a coin show in the U.S.

Hey 1970 silver art. Send me pics of the bars you need and I will check next time I go to the local coin shop. They have a huge bin of them. I picked up a cool buffalo 1 ounce silver art bar there.

It might be awhile (maybe another couple of months) because I have a fairly long "wish list" of 1970's silver art bars. I am not even finished putting this "wish list" together. I always seem to make changes to this list on a weekly basis. I will have to get back with you on that. Thanks Freaky.

If you are willing to ship them to Belgium, i'd always like new bars in my collection.

Thanks!!!! | According to the Archie Kidd's 4th edition of "An Indexed Guide Book of Silver Art Bars", the 1973 Justice Mint "Mountain Quail" (JM-18) silver art bar has a "rarity" value of $20 over spot silver. With that said, you might be able to get between $7 to $8 over spot silver for it on ebay. Sometimes maybe more than that. It just depends on the demand for that particular silver art bar.
