Value of 1850 $10 Central Bank of Alabama Note

My dad recently purchased a 1850 Central Bank of Alabama $10 note and he is trying to find a value for the note. The note shows slaves working in the field and it also has a picture of George Washington. He asked me to find something on it but I have looked at several books and online and can't find anything on this note. Does anyone know the value of such a bill or where I can find the value on such bills?

Um no I dont think it does he is asking about a banknote and not a census report!
IP is there any chance that you could post a pic or a scan of the note in question as we do have members here who are very knowlagable on these types of notes and they might well be able to help and pics will help them with grading it etc

You will find it on page 12 of volume one of the Haxby set. It is listed under Mongomery. It is either G16a or it is G16b if it has ABNCo imprint on it. Both are listed as $12 in VG and $20 in VF. Prices are very outdated but they show the note is common and not rare. The paper looks dark on your scan. Just make sure this is not a reproduction instead of an original note. Hope this helps.

How outdated are those prices? He paid $90 for it. Is there an easy way to tell a counterfeit from an original?

The prices are very outdated. It is hard to tell the grade from the scan but it looks nice. I don't see any folds. It is an issued note and not a remainder. I don't know very much about Alabama notes but $90 doesn't sound bad for this. As long as he bought it from a reputable dealer he should be alright. The repros are usually on brown and stiff parchment-like paper instead of thin paper. It would worry me if the note was stiff instead of limp. Maybe someone more familiar with southern notes will join in.
