World coin site-Looks good

I was wondering if anybody had any dealings with www.downies.com in Australia for world coins,I did make a small order to see how well it works out. There collection is large for world coins and if you do check out the site go to where it say's world coins and they have on one page a lot of silver and gold from around the world. I ordered 1 unc metallic coin and 1 silver proof coin. The shipping was $8.50 to U.S. customers so I'll see what and how long it takes. Randy

Yes, Downies is in Australia, but they also have a US "branch" so to say - see www.eurocollections.com (in California). Chances are you'll get your coins from there.

Wow, their prices are ridiculous.

I've had a few dealings with Downies and have had no troubles. The postage cost includes no-questions-asked insurance and as mentioned they are shipping from Australia (that can sometimes meant slight delays in items arriving but they do get there in the end). I buy more from eurocollections though, as they have quite a large range of world coins including some pretty obscure stuff I wouldn't know where to get anywhere else (besides perhaps eBay buyers, who have some pretty ridiculous postage prices as well sometimes)

Hope all goes well with your purchases!

I recently ordered a coin from eurocollections and it was redirected to Downies. Have ordered coins in the past from downies, cost is high, shipping is high, and delivery is slow. Coins, howerver are first rate. Sometimes it's the only source and if you want it bad enought, you will pay the price. Consider the coins are coming across the ocean, not from down the street.

I order from accross the pond often and still, for shipping a coin...its high IMO. Not to mention there is little there I would be interested in....just doesnt carry coins within my collecting focus.

It's all shipped out of the same place, Downies and ECI stuff I believe. I'd be happy to buy elsewhere that has cheaper postage if I could find a site that offered the range that they do. I see they are now offering Australian Dollars on ECI, I guess to entice the Australian buyers who will probably benefit more with cheaper postage. I might write to them one of these days and ask for their explanation on the postage cost to the US - or has someone else already done that?
