My Mood: | 2001 Canadian unplated?
Hey guys, here is a picture of a quarter I found in my change. I'm a little curious if there is a way to find out if this coin missed its last nickel coating, or if it has just been removed.
This coin weighs 4.31 grams as opposed to the 4.4 grams it i supposed to weigh and the layers go like this:
Steel core
nickel
copper
then he thin coating of nickel again.
The "P" on the obverse stands for "plated" These coins were first produced in 1999 as test coins for vending machine companies to test and a few leaked out. o the mint mass produced them for a few years to calm the collectors down.
Any question?
Just ask!
-Shawn

It could be missing the last plating of nickel because the steel plachet is first plated with nickel, than copper, than nickel again.

I will put my money on this missing a clad layer rather than being environmentally damaged.

If you look close at the beads around the edge, you can see nickel-colored spots, I thought these coins were solid nickel. When did they change that?

I just realized it says this in the first post.
