Here's what they chose for the rev 2010 cent.

Of all the nice designs submitted, they chose this one. Yuk, I don't like it!

Story:

Also, at the bottom of the article, I think they forgot to omit this as we are talking about the cent, not the Sac dollar, LOL.

That's... not that bad. I'm somewhat confused by the desire to place "ONE NATION" on the reverse, though.

About the "one nation, etc, the article says this:

The recommendation of the wheat sheaf for the design will go to the United States Mint, with one suggested alteration.

Commission members did ask that the words "One Cent" be spelled out and that the words "One Nation" be omitted, he said.

I wish there was a way to protest to the Commission that choses the designs!

Well, they could have used the reverse of the 1909 cent. That would have been a heck of a lot better than this.

Is it wheat? Looks somewhat like asparagus spears. But that would show "war" rather than peace.

I guess we are so far removed from the days of a desire for artistic aesthetics in our coinage that this should be no surprise. You would think that we would not have hit our peak 100 years ago or more. Awfull, purely awfull.

It's not even an original design. Taken in part from this coin here:
German Weimar Republic

My 12 year old grandson could have done better than that.
