The two in the morning thing could be the nightly backup routine. I am not sure exactly what time it happens, I can check with the company that manages it though. If I understand it correctly, it has to shut down the database to create a copy, then the copy is backed up to a third party location.

I did have to restrict editing posts to 24 hours due to a rash of vandalism recently. I do not like putting on such restrictions, even when just temporary, but from time to time CoinTalk has experienced vandalism and spamming which takes advantage of openings such as this and it is extremely difficult and time consuming to combat these types of things.

I also have a backlog of about three dozen private messages to get to, as well as over a hundred emails I need to reply to, as a result of getting behind with things due to personal issues (see the General Discussion section for more info on that). So I am a bit under water right now and trying to put the critical issues first but eventually will get caught up again. I do appreciate and encourage all feedback about whats wrong with CoinTalk, and I appreciate even more your patience with me while I figure out how to deal with it.

one suggestion on how to deal with problem

i am a member on many similar "boards" (they are for different purposes, not coins), but 99.99% of them use a board called invision power board, or ipb for short. i have never experienced any problems with any of these sites (except for when one of the webhosts is down for one reason or another). all pages load quickly, even with 40+ posts per page. if you would like more information, feel free to pm me (no point in typing everything up if you guys don't want to consider it). yes, i have problems with site loading slow too

-----------------------------------------------------------------

here is a potential source of the slowly-loading pages (these are known as bots, and certain potentially unfriendly people have been known to attempt to take sites down by using these "bots" to browse to a certain site so much that the server can't handle it. now, the search engines also use these bots, which could account for some of the number, but certainly not that many.

I had to almost stop reading and posting here. It just takes too much time.
There is so much that is loading with every page of a thread. The menu pages seem to move right along but once I click a thread that changes.
It has been a little better the last week or so but I don't have a clue why.
Very few seem to have this problem so it's most likely something on my end.
I'll find a fix one of these days.

The sites that I use or browse are based on various apps such as IPB, SMF, phpBB ... and I do not think that there are any significant differences as far the "performance" is concerned. Yes, there are times when Coin Talk is slow for me, but those phases are short. And, they occur elsewhere too.

Of course any forum site gets slow when people post giant photos. Also, if an image that is hosted elsewhere is "built" into a post here, that may slow things (loading a topic) down if the hosting site is busy and/or slow. But again that is not a CT-specific issue ...

I am really noticing it today. 30-45+ seconds for every page to load with alot of them coming up marked as done but being blank.

As a side note. I can click on a banner add here in CT. ie.. Mesacoin.com I then can go open a new instance of my browser, type in Mesacoin.com in a new session and be shopping before the link opens from Cointalk. Whatever is going on is affecting access to the banner ads as well.
