| Additions to my Thaler collection
My newest Thaler coins.
1. Schwarzeburg 1 Thaler 1859, C 70 – Price: $102
2. Waldeck und Pyrmont 1 Thaler 1859, C 88 – Price: $146
3. Wurttemberg 1 Thaler 1863, KM 601 – Price: $102
All three thalers are Vereinsthalers. The Vereinsthaler was introduced in 1857, and in use in most of the german states, including Austria. Austria stopped issuing the Vereinsthaler in 1867. The other german states stopped issuing Vereinsthalers in 1873, when the newly formed German empire introduced the Goldmark. The Vereinsthaler coins continued however to circulate in the German empire at a value of 3 Mark until 1908, when it was replaced by a 3 Mark coin.
It contains 16 2/3 grams of silver.

Two new german thalers to day:
Bavaria: 1 Thaler 1770 KM 234.2 - $15
Schleswig-Holstein: 1 Daler Specie (60 Schilling) 1794 C 9 - $260
Painfully obvious to anyone, the Bavaria Thaler has taken a severe beating. But I got it cheap.

Congrats !
I LOVE THALERS, but those from Renaissance and Baroque the most!
Some say a need for large coin and more pleasure, finished Middle age Roman Church ruling, going further with this crazy thought, that Bohemian mint master was more powerful then POPE..

Nice Kvarterto, that Waldeck Taler looks very nice. I also appreciate the state Talers, and the Doppeltalers of the 19th century.
If you are keen on those coins, you may want to get a specialized catalogue. For example "Die Muenzen des 19. Jahrhunderts bis zur Reichsgruendung" by Bernd Stutzmann.
It covers all of the German state coinage (w/o gold issues) from 1800-1873. Published by Money Trend Verlag, Wien, Austria.

Thaler catch of the day:
Sweden: 1 Riksdaler 1776 KM 514
- Weight: 29, 2 grams
- Metal: silver
- Portrait: Gustav III
- Price: $275
Gustav III was king of Sweden from 1771 until he was assassinated in 1792. The assassination happened during a masquerade (Verdis opera Un ballo in maschera is loosely based on this incident). Actually the assassination was sort of a failure. The King died after two weeks, not from the wound it self, but from an infection in the wound.
