I'm thinking about buying a coin inventory software program. The two I am looking at are:

Coin Collector's Assistant Plus (Carlisle Development Corp)

and

Coin Keeper Deluxe (HobbySoft)

Coin Collector's Assistant + comes with 'The Grading Assistant' (interactive version of ANA Grading Standards with 1,000+ photos). You can also buy add-ons for US Currency and World Coins.

Coin Keeper Deluxe also has the ANA Grading Standards with photos.

Do anyone here use either of these or other programs? If so, would you recommend the one you use? Any comments or opinions would be appreciated.

I use Excel and a hardcopy of the ANA Grading Guide.
Don't seem to need anymore than that.
Although if you have a relational databasing package like Access (and know how to use it), that would be better.
Keep it cheap until you KNOW what you have won't do the job.

Excel works just fine for me. I like to display the information I want and not what some software company think I want.

I also use excell. Its easy and lets me put in the info I want.

And if you take pictures of your coins, you can link the images into the Excel spreadsheet.

Great question, I've been struggling with this myself. I'm trying to do an Excel inventory for Garrett's collection for two weeks and I'm having trouble with it. (It's been YEARS since I've worked with Excel) I gave up on Excel and went to HA online and tried their inventory program but Garrett didn't like the format of it. We're having trouble putting in slab info from non PCGS holders on HA, so we're back to Excel. Does anyone have a template they could share from Excel or tips on what you included on yours? If you do, you can PM me. I use a MacBook, and I haven't found any of the pay programs that are Mac compatible. Excel and Word can somehow magically take Windows files and convert them to the Apple/Mac format. Thanks!

Remember this. If you use Excel, you can download your info on a flash drive, go almost anywhere on Earth and view your information. Maybe a little difficult in China. If you purchase a program for this purpose, the only place you can utilize your information is on a computer with that program. And also, about 99% of people or buisnesses will not allow you to put that program on thier equipment.

In all honesty the most user friendly and best coin software I ever saw was a program called Coin Elite. It is fully customizable in regard to data and can print customized reports.

That said, I will email you an Excel spreadsheet that I built several years ago. It may not be suitable for your purposes but at least you'd have a template to work with. You could just clear contents or change headers & entries to suit you.

I use Exact Change; I really think it is a worthwhile program. Very easy to use, very intuitive controls etc. It's reports feature is great and customizable. I am still in the process of adding coins and this will take a considerable amount of time but I think it is great overall. I have used Coin Manage and other program in the past. Coin Manage is a nice program but I would only caution you about changing the coins they have already in their database. I deleted several coins and moved coins from one category to another. Then I did there update and it re-added the coins that I deleted and or moved. So all the time I spent getting the database the way that I wanted it was lost. I have also tried Coin Collector's Assistant Plus (Carlisle Development Corp) but I found that it had a very large learning curve.

Exact Change comes on a DVD, primarily because the program contains over 20,000 images. It is suited for both U.S. and World coin collections.

Exact Change has the capability of its user adding categories and customs reports (along with many pre-defined ones). It has all the bells and whistles of the major programs plus more.

To top it all off Exact Change has customer service that I believe is second to none. They answer your questions promptly and usually the next day. They have frequent updates which by the way are FREE forever! They are also very receptive to their customers suggestions for improving the software. At $79.95 including free updates I don't believe there is a more reasonably price Coin Collecting Software program out there. Recently Wildman Software (Exact Change) signed an agreement with Krause Publications authorizing Wild Man Software to include KM numbers in the Exact Change database. Exact Change is the only software package for coin collectors that is currently authorized to include these catalog numbers.


Wildman Software has also recently released a feature called ebooks. This feature allows users who have the Krause Publications Standard Catalog of World Coins on DVD. They can view the catalog right in Exact Change. When you click on a coin type, Exact Change takes you right to the correct page in the correct catalog. It doesn't go just to the country, it goes right to the page on which that particular coin type is listed!


Give Exact Change a look, I don't believe you will be disappointed but you will have a little less money in your wallet. Also they now have a trial version that you can download to try for free. Website http://www.exactchange.info/index.htm

I just purchased this software a second ago. Based on what I have seen and read, it looks like Exact Change could be a winner! I have compared this to Pro Coin and Coin Manage which I felt offered great info and ease of use, but were still lacking something. Until I tried Exact Change, I couldn't figure it out, but after I tried it, I knew immediately that I had to buy this software. I had been looking for over two years now, but never took the plunge because I wasn't completely satisfied with any of the software that I demoed. This was the first software package that I had me jumping out of my seat about. I can't wait to get the DVD and start using it. More feedback will be forthcoming. I use the Heritage MyCollection feature. Organization is a little confusing, but you can add photos, don't ever need to back it up, and it provides current pricing and population reports. What else do you really need? Oh and BTW, you can export your collection into an Excel file whenever you want.
