1883 "Racketeer" Gold Plated Liberty Nickel

I have an opportunity to get one of these coins about $25.00 grade AU-50 or so, not professionally graded. What do you think about this? Thanks in advance for your advice.

If the gold plating is on top of the worn areas of the coin it is not a contemporary Racketeer Nickel. Worn coins with modern gold plating are very common.

Thanks Hobo, I just read your post from the guy who bought from Ebay. It totally makes sense that if it was a real coin, it would have been passed around until the gold wore off. I will pass and continue collecting my Franklin Halfs and early Kennedy's. Thanks again Coinfan!

I think that is a wise decision. Good luck!
